Emotional or verbal abuse is often the most difficult form of abuse to detect. Emotional abuse is any situation or action that is harmful to a resident’s self-esteem. If your loved one is a victim of emotional abuse, changes in their manner may include becoming easily upset or agitated, withdrawing or becoming non-communicative, unusual behavior, such as sucking, biting or rocking, humiliating, insulting, frightening or threatening family and friends and preferring to be isolated from others.
